Dear Athletes, Families, and the Athletic Community of Durham and Middlefield.

Please see the below notification from our Superintendent of Schools that went out to the students and families of RSD 13 earlier today.  Due to the growing concerns of a mosquito-bourne virus, the CT Department of Public Health has issued an alert.  In accordance, the athletic department will modify our athletic practices and contests to conclude by 6pm.  I realize this decision will cause many additional schedule changes, however RSD 13 is committed to the health and safety of all our students and their families.  The athletic department will be working to make all the necessary changes in accordance with the safety precautions and we encourage everyone to sign up for the schedule changes from CIAC.  The link to that is on my athletic HOME page as well.
Sincerely,
Todd Petronio
Athletic Director

DPH Mosquito Concerns

September 20, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians/Staff:

I am writing to inform you that Regional School District 13 will be modifying the schedule of athletic practices and contests as well as other outdoor events that occur after dusk. We anticipate that this will happen for the next three weeks, or until the first frost, and will keep you informed of any changes. We are exercising caution due to information received from the Connecticut Department of Health regarding concerns about the Eastern Equine Encephalitis that is carried by mosquitoes in our area. Several other schools in our area, including those we compete against in sports, have made similar changes to their athletic and outdoor event schedule including changing start times of athletic events and late afternoon activities to earlier in the day and ending practices and other activities by dusk. Due to the changes that have been made in other districts, some of our events and activity times have already been altered. Please check the Strong and CRHS homepages for up-to-date information.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Y. Veronesi
Superintendent of Schools
