PSATs

PSATs

The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and tests your skills in reading, writing and math. You can only take the PSAT once per school year. During your junior year, you could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship based on your score.

All freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the PSATs in the fall of each year. The freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 and the sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT. Click on the following link for more information regarding the PSATs.

In addition to taking the PSATs, students can practice for the SATs by creating a College Board account and linking the account with Khan Academy. College Board has partnered with Khan Academy so that all students who want to go to college can prepare for the SAT at their own pace, at no cost. Visit the Khan Academy link below for more information regarding test prep and the College Board link to create a College Board account.

SATs

The SAT is a globally standardized test used by many colleges and universities for admission. The test is intended to measure high school student's preparedness for colleges. The new digital SAT is 2 hours and 15 minutes (approximate) consisting of reading & writing (2 modules) and Math (2 modules).

The SATs will be administered to students during March of their junior year at CRHS. This is the School Day SAT and is required by the state of Connecticut. Students do not register for this test date. They will be registered by the school and by the state.

Students can opt to take the SATs again during the Spring of their junior year (May or June) or the fall of their senior year (August, October, November). These administrations are done on a Saturday and the students must register for these test dates through their College Board account. Students can visit the College Board website link below to log into their account or create an account.

ACT

ACT

The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized test used for college admissions in the US. Most colleges that are requiring standardized testing for the admissions process will accept the ACT in place of the SAT. The test covers four academic skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and scientific reasoning. The ACT is administered seven times a year: February, April, June, July, August, September, and October. The duration of the ACT exam is approximately 3 hours.
