Checklist for College Bound Seniors

Checklist for College Bound Seniors

  • See your counselor to review your college lists.
  • Take the SAT or ACT. It is the student’s responsibility to request that their test scores be sent directly from the College Board/ACT to the colleges.
  • Complete the “College Recommendation Questionnaire” on Naviance if you are planning on having your counselor write a recommendation letter for you. You can find it under your initials at the top right of the page. Click on the down arrow and then choose “Surveys From Your School”. The Letter of Rec Questionnaire is listed under surveys. Your counselor will not write a letter of recommendation without this completed.
  • Ask teachers for recommendations.
    • You need 1 or 2 recommendations for most schools.
    • You should request recommendations from senior year or junior year teachers.
    • You need to give teachers a Teacher Recommendation Form (green form available in the Counseling Office) and request the letter on Naviance. You must do both.
    • Give teachers enough time (at least three weeks) because they will be writing recommendations for many students.
    • Follow up with a thank-you note to the teachers who wrote recommendations for you!
  • Plan college visits and interviews and attend College Information Sessions in the CRHS Counseling Office. The dates for college representative visits are available via Naviance (Click on the “Colleges" tab. College Visits are listed under the Research Colleges heading). You will need to sign up for the visit and then you will receive a reminder via your Naviance account.
  • Post-Secondary Visit Form - If you will be visiting a post-secondary institution, you must complete a post-secondary visit form and submit it no later than 3 school days prior to the visit. (yellow form available in the counseling office)
  • Open Houses and College Fairs - Please also check the Counseling Office bulletin board, Senior google classroom, and Naviance for college “Open Houses” and local college fairs.
  • Finalize college list on Naviance - Make sure they are listed under “Colleges I’m Applying to” in Naviance which can be found under the “Colleges Tab” at the top of the home page.
  • Begin filling out applications and working on your essays.
  • BE AWARE OF:
    • College application deadlines for both early and regular admission!
    • Tests and academic criteria required for admission.
  • USE THE COMMON APPLICATION if your chosen colleges accept it. We can link your Common Application with Naviance and send all Common Application forms through Naviance.(www.commonapp.org)
  • Use the College’s Application if they do not accept the Common Application.
  • Students must complete a Transcript Request Form. (pink form available in the Counseling Office) for each school no less than 15 school days prior to their application deadlines.
    • Please note: The Counseling Office must have a “Permission to Release Records Form” signed by a parent/guardian before any transcripts may be sent.
    • This transcript request must be in combination with requesting a transcript on Naviance.
    • The Counseling Office will send out the high school transcript, senior year report cards, secondary school report, school profile, and counselor letter of recommendation (if applicable).
    • Student responsibilities include submitting the completed application, fees and requesting that your test scores are sent from the testing agency.
  • Any student planning on playing Division 1 or Division 2 sports in college needs to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse online at https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/
  • Study hard!  Colleges look very seriously at your first and second marking period grades when considering your acceptance.
